Hawaii State Champs..a shocker for me
OPS News item image
28 km roughest conditions I have ever been in..single or double....
not the biggest swell ever, but roughest rebounding chop off Rabbitt Island and Makapu Point....after which surfing(25km winds) the good stuff was tough after getting hammered in the 1st hour.
The Hawaiians are awesome in these conditions. I sucked in them, But I am happy to have finished..and not last.

Considering how rough the conditions were that day with two of the top OC-1 guys losing their canoes, I think anyone who completed that long course did awesome and for non-locals not having the privilege of training in these waters, its just even more credit…

Hawaii Kai run
D, Ian and Tom
Light trade winds..10-15 knts.
beautiful little runs, fun easy day, small swell,
12km, 1 hour....nice

another 10 km
No wind, just like home, chip chop 10 km around Waimanalo and Makapu....rainy and warm...winds predicted to pick up later in the week.
5km easy trying to catch every little bump and work it, 5km hard return..average speed for last 5km, 12.5km.

best 10km ever
After days of frustration...best paddle ever. 10 km total in and out through the surf at the point off Kailua..wind has died so no one was sure where or when to paddle..
But there was surf and so the work out was ins and outs..sprint out through the surf to the back line and catch the biggest wave back in.....max speed 22 km/hour
ave speed 12.5 km/hour..turquoise blue water, turtles..awesome!

missed the race in Hawaii..
ok, all set to race on Sunday, the Oahu Champs... Pat even went and registered me and ..baby fussy and had to be held from 6am, boys needed breakfast, couldn't get the ski ready..seat pads, hydration..gonna miss the start, gave up and went to the beach instead..sometimes you just gotta say, no way. Ok...try again.

Makai pier run..hawaii
D, Zsolt, Tom, Sean
about 13 km down wind woohoo..blowing 15 knts..pumping ocean..now that is Molokai training.

am easy, pm time trial
Am..alone again...naturally..isn't that a song? ok 15km steady in the bay, every 5' up for 15 seconds max....no stopping...boring. I think I woke up around the back side of Balboa...
PM..yes sir..5km time trial
11 people this time..its growing....
25:18..12 seconds faster, but more fun with some wakes and crashes, fishing lines and rowing 8s running into people.
Patrick still not paddling..time keeper instead.

more ocean
12km total more ocean with small bump..2 x10' with wind
4 x 5' into the wind and 1 x 2' from bell buoy to harbor entrace 100%.... side chop slop with outgoing tide
used the Think Legend and I liked it...I hardly ever like a ski that isn't a Fenn, so I'm surprised about the Legend....a real winner.

20 km ocean
D, Noah, KC
20 km triangle in the ocean
good balance practice in the mush
wind and swell from different directions

ON this work out, the average would have been low becasue we regrouped after pieces. I would say on a 20km race without wind I average around 11.5 km perhour.
On hard pieces in the ocean I am always trying to go above 12km/hr.

Hi DeAnne,

What's your average speed on this 20km run?

25:30 We had 6 people tonight. Everyone stoked. It should pick up every week.
Good Job Hayden.. 39:45... and he's 11.

Southern California Championships…Malibu to Marina del Rey
25 km
Flat, hot, boring, aweful
no wind, no swell
This was a total mental test and physical grind.
Hit the wall at the harbor wall...could barely paddle in...
Yuck.

Friday Bay sprints
D and Eva
4 sets of (2' rest 1, 1' rest 1, 30") rest 2' between sets
80%, 90% 100%

Thursday alone again in the flat ocean
10 km time trial in the ocean..5 km straight out, 5km straight back..walk across the penninsula...
slight breeze, no swell.

No more wind

Newport Pier to Newport jetty in ocean....
looking for swell and wind to redeam myself from Sunday,
