First race of the So Cal Ocean Series in San Diego. Flat and hot weather was on tap for a record number of surfskis...lots of past and present Olympic paddlers showed up from the training center. Tim Hornsby was the winner of the mens surfski division on a Mako 6 and a surprise 3rd place was Patrick racing my new Fenn Mako Elite. Good job Pat...old guy keeping up with the new guys...nice job to Philppe Bocarra and Chris Barlow too for showing that age does not matter. 20 years ago these 3 were diceing it out for the top spots...and Saturday too. Sunday was the best downwind run I have ever done in California. The weather changed from flat and hot to really windy, 25 knots and cold. Pat and I on double, Correy, Noah and KC surfed from Newport to Dana. We covered 25 km in 1 hour 35. Record time to Dana. What a blast. A big thanks to Eva for driving!!
And to complete the weekend was Hayden and Reeces first ever swim meet both days. What a fun time and thrills for me to watch my boys race in the pool.

1. DeAnne understates the sea state on our run to Dana Point.
   It was BOMBING !
   Hawaiian Style all the way.
   20-foot swells in sets, marching directly to Dana.
   It was all time FUN until I ran into a continent of kelp.
   I found myself in the middle of a solid mat of kelp as far as the eye could see.
   I had to turn out to sea, 90 degees to the swell, and inch my way out at about ZERO speed.
   Totally stupid, could have been drowned.
   For all you Hawaiian visitors to California, be ware the kelp !
