Hemmens and Hemmens win Northern California Wavechaser Championships on Mako XTs
Wed, May 03, 2006

Patrick won his second consecutive Northern California Championships on Saturday, May 1. DeAnne, racing alone in the Women's division, ended up 4th overall in the event. The conditions were cold and breezy, with a big incoming tide and about a 3' swell.

The messy water made for good surfing on the Mako XT in the ocean off Point Bonita. Other faster, but non surfing, flat water skis had trouble handling the small ocean swell and chop.

- Hi DeAnne, enjoyed speaking with you just now about the Phatwater and getting boats to and from distant locations. We also talked about Dawid Mocke and others participating in this year's Phatwater for the $2000.00 first solo to break 4 hours. Mike Herbert will be back, and as I mentioned, Oscar Chalupsky will be here. We are hoping Greg Barton will attend and I have contacted Carter Johnson and Robert Clegg in hopes they will each at least consider it. Brad Pennington, of Texas, who recently broke the Yukon record previously held by Carter says he is coming to "break the 4 hours in my K-1". Fair enough. All of this is good news for our sport which it is my objective to carry into the spotlight for all aging athletes and newcomers.
I'll send you a few press releases and some of the other objectives we at the Phatwater are hoping to use to advance the sport. Among those is a an adaptive paddling program I hope to institute as a means to allow those with disabilities to return to an athletic existence; one which will hopefully attract the attention of the Biomedical and Biomechanics industry.
In the meantime, thanks for your insight and enthusiasm. I'll look forward to meeting you guys on the west coast at some point.
Call or write if you have any questions.
Best of everything,
